Potluck is an endearing film about a woman trying to find her place in the world and the essential human need for connection.
Carolyn thought she was awesome; I mean what’s not to love?! Her 11th birthday party was going to be amazing! Inspired by her favorite sitcom, she made all the decorations herself. She was sure everyone will love it as much as she does. Except they didn’t. No one came and she was devastated.
40 years later Carolyn has armored herself in positivity and one-liners, determined to be included and accepted. Except, she’s not. No matter how hard she tries she just can’t connect. In a last-ditch effort Carolyn throws caution to the wind and risks her heart by hosting a potluck party in her apartment building. She is sure this will work! Except it doesn’t. No one comes, again. She hits rock bottom and gives up. A week later her neighbor, Sadie, surprises her that she has posted about the Potluck and a few people actually come. The weekly potluck grows bigger and bigger each week as does Carolyn’s self-acceptance and confidence. Carolyn learns to connect authentically and finally relishes belonging.
